Based off the engraving 'The Knight, Death and the Devil' by Albrecht Durer (1471-1528). This painting depicts the character "Don Quixote", an ageing man who believes he is a knight, travelling the countryside to fight evil and defend honour. Theodor Baierl mixes his story with the darker mood of the engraving .

In the scene, Don Quixote rides on his horse while Death - shown as a skeleton on a dark horse - leans in beside him. Even though death is right next to him, he doesn’t react. He keeps going, focused on his mission, showing how determined - and stubborn - he is, even when the danger is real.
