Undercurrents (1938) by Gertrude Hermes (British, 1901–1983).

A striking black-and-white wood engraving depicting a large fish swimming beneath a swirling underwater vortex, with two human figures suspended near the surface. Through intricate linework, dramatic contrasts and flowing currents, Hermes creates a surreal composition exploring the mysterious depths and powerful forces of the natural world.
