Darial Pass | Ilya Nikolaevich Zankovsky | 19th Century
Taxes incluses
In this haunting nocturnal landscape, Zankovsky captures the dramatic solitude of the Darial Pass, a rugged gateway through the Caucasus Mountains. Moonlight breaks through turbulent clouds, bathing the foaming river and jagged peaks in a spectral glow. The small, dimly lit settlement at left heightens the vast scale and isolation of the scene, emphasizing nature’s sublime and untamed power. With meticulous detail and a brooding palette, Zankovsky evokes both awe and unease, rendering the wilderness as a place of mystery, danger, and enduring grandeur.
