A fine 19th century English School depiction of Titania and Bottom from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, oil on canvas laid to board. This accomplished interpretation of Landseer’s celebrated composition captures the enchantment of the Queen of the Fairies attending Bottom, whose head has been transformed into that of a donkey. Richly painted and in excellent overall condition, the work reflects the Victorian fascination with literary and fantastical subjects.
Presented in a later gilt frame.
