Winter Forest Landscape with a Full Moon | Julius Sergius von Klever | 1880

Julius Sergius von Klever’s Winter Forest Landscape with a Full Moon gathers snow, trees and nocturnal light into an intimate winter scene. The dark verticals of the forest create depth and enclosure, while the moon introduces a cool point of illumination within the surrounding atmosphere. Subtle variations in tone distinguish the snow from the sky and woodland shadows. Klever’s landscape balances close observation with Romantic feeling, finding a compelling sense of solitude in the stillness of the winter night.
