The Old Man and Death II (1895) by Ladislav Mednyánszky (1852–1919) is a haunting meditation on mortality and the passage of time. Cloaked in deep shadow, an elderly man is confronted by the spectral figure of Death, whose silent presence transforms an intimate moment of reflection into a powerful memento mori. Through dramatic chiaroscuro and subdued earthy tones, Mednyánszky explores the inevitability of death with remarkable psychological depth and quiet dignity.
