The Dream of Faust | August von Kreling | 1874
Steuern inbegriffen
This richly imaginative painting depicts Faust collapsed in uneasy sleep, surrounded by a swirling vision of spirits, demons, and seductive apparitions drawn from his troubled mind. Bathed in an eerie, bluish light, the scene blurs the boundary between dream and nightmare, as Mephistophelean figures and ghostly beings hover and gesture around the scholar’s body. Kreling transforms Goethe’s legend into a haunting psychological spectacle—one in which desire, temptation, and damnation unfold in a dense, feverish vision of the unconscious.
