Carel Willink’s "Street with a Statue" (1934) presents a stark, deserted urban scene under a looming sky of heavy, turbulent clouds. The rigid geometry of the empty buildings and long shadows cast across the red-brick street create an atmosphere of foreboding stillness. At the center stands an equestrian statue, monumental yet isolated, its presence heightening the sense of unease in this eerily silent cityscape.
