The aged, winged figure of Father Time restrains the youthful Cupid as he clips his wings, bringing love’s freedom and vitality to an end. The skull and scythe below reinforce the work’s meditation on mortality, while the contrast between youth and age evokes the passing of beauty, desire and earthly pleasure.
