"View of Dresden at Sunset" is an oil painting by German painter Carl Gustav Carus, created in the early 19th century. The painting depicts a sweeping panoramic view of the city of Dresden, as seen from a hillside at sunset. The city is depicted in warm, golden tones, with the sun casting long shadows over the buildings and the river below. The sky is painted in a brilliant array of colors, from deep red and orange in the west to shades of blue and purple in the east. The overall mood of the painting is one of awe and wonder, with the sunset serving as a symbol of the fleeting beauty of life and the transience of existence. Carus' interest in the Romantic movement is evident in his use of light and colour, as well as his focus on the emotional and spiritual aspects of nature.
