"Topielica" (1900) by Antoni Kamieński is a haunting and surreal painting that depicts a drowned woman suspended in water, her lifeless body entwined with serpentine strands. Rendered in muted, sepia tones, the ethereal figure drifts downward in a dreamlike abyss, surrounded by ghostly shadows and faint glimmers of light. The work evokes themes of death, nature’s grip, and the supernatural, capturing the eerie beauty and tragic serenity of the drowned maiden from Slavic folklore.
