The Great Red Dragon and the Woman Clothed with the Sun by William Blake (c.1805) is a dramatic watercolor illustrating a scene from the Book of Revelation. The monstrous, muscular dragon dominates the composition with outstretched bat-like wings, multiple crowned heads, and a coiled tail. Beneath it lies the radiant, vulnerable figure of the "woman clothed with the sun," depicted in flowing gold with a crown of stars, evoking purity and divine protection. Blake’s intense contrasts and symbolic imagery heighten the spiritual struggle between good and evil.
