The Expulsion from the Garden of Eden | Thomas Cole | 1828
Shipping price will be calculated at checkout. Taxes included
This dramatic landscape depicts Adam and Eve being driven from Eden into a vast, shadowed wilderness. On the left, the garden still glows with divine light and harmony; on the right, dark clouds, jagged rocks, and stormy terrain signal exile, suffering, and mortality. Cole uses sweeping scale and stark contrast to turn the biblical moment into a meditation on loss, punishment, and the fragile boundary between paradise and the fallen world, imbuing the scene with a powerful sense of awe and foreboding.
