"The Coming of Night" (c. 1907) by Wilfrid Gabriel de Glehn is a moody and romantic painting that portrays a serene, dreamlike figure of a young woman enveloped in flowing, dark hair that seems to merge with the encroaching twilight around her. Her eyes are gently closed, suggesting a peaceful surrender to the quiet of nightfall. The deep blues and dusky tones of the background evoke a star-strewn sky, enhancing the mystical, almost ethereal atmosphere. De Glehn blends elements of Symbolism and Impressionism, capturing the transition from day to night with poetic sensitivity.
