The Ascension of Christ | Salvador Dali | 1958

This is Salvador Dalí's "The Ascension of Christ," painted in 1958. It's a surreal depiction of the moment of Christ's ascension to heaven after his resurrection. The painting is notable for its unusual perspective, looking up at the soles of Christ's feet, which are positioned in the centre of a golden, hyper-spherical halo. Above Christ is a hovering figure of God, casting down a spectral beam of light, while around them are serene, celestial forms and dark, volcanic-like eruptions, creating a contrast that is both dramatic and enigmatic, typical of Dalí's style. The work reflects Dalí's unique approach to religious subjects, combining traditional Christian iconography with his own visionary and often enigmatic symbolism.
