Eugène Jansson’s Midsummer Night at Riddarholmen transforms Stockholm’s waterfront into a scene of suspended twilight. A dark sailing vessel and its reflection anchor the water, while the distant skyline forms a narrow silhouette beneath a vivid red band of evening light. Sweeping strokes across the green-gold sky and water give the still view a subtle sense of movement. The painting’s compressed shapes and resonant colour turn a recognisable urban setting into an expressive nocturnal vision.
