Death with Human | Marcel Roux | 19th Century
Taxes included
This illustration by Marcel Roux (1878–1922) is a dark and intense etching depicting an old man hunched over a table, greedily grasping at coins and valuables. His expression is one of desperation and obsession, symbolizing material greed. Behind him, the figure of Death, represented as a skeletal being with a menacing grin, looms with a scythe in hand, waiting to strike. The image serves as a powerful allegory of the futility of wealth in the face of inevitable mortality, a common theme in Roux's macabre and symbolic works.
