An Angel, 1889 — Fernand Khnopff (Belgian, 1858–1921).
A mysterious Symbolist vision in which an armoured figure stands over a reclining half-woman, half-tiger creature, surrounded by a vast, star-filled darkness. Khnopff’s dreamlike imagery and muted tones create an unsettling atmosphere suspended between fantasy, sleep and the supernatural.
