Ruggiero Riding the Hippogriff. Illustrated by Gustave Doré (1832–1883) for Ludovico Ariosto’s "Orlando Furioso". In this serene yet fantastical scene, the knight Ruggiero soars through a misty forest atop his majestic winged steed, the hippogriff. Doré captures a moment of quiet flight, with delicate trees and a river winding through the landscape below, blending the realms of myth and nature in his signature, intricate style.
