Alyonushka (1881) by Viktor Vasnetsov (1848–1926). Viktor Vasnetsov’s Alyonushka captures a moment of quiet melancholy drawn from Russian folklore. A young peasant girl sits barefoot by a still pond, her posture and distant gaze evoking deep loneliness and introspection. Surrounded by reeds and a dark forest, the subdued palette and natural detail heighten the sense of poetic realism and emotional depth. Through its tender depiction of innocence and sorrow, the painting has become one of the most beloved icons of Russian Romantic art.
